In his life as a singer/songwriter, Dr. Tomhave is a multi-award winning songwriter in the such prestigious competitions as the Empower Music and Arts Posi Awards, the Great American Song Competition, the International Indie Awards, the MidAtlantic Songwriting Competition, the Unsigned Only Music Competition, the USA Songwriting Competition, the WAMMIES, and many more.  Dr. Tomhave has been a singer/songwriter for many years and has been honored to co-write with amazing songwriting luminaries including Melinda Wood Allen, Robert Anderson, Claudia Carawan, Jazz Christianson, Jan Garrett, Dan Johnson, Anji Kat, Tom Kimmel, J.D. Martin, Richard Mekdeci, Sky Nelson, Penny Nichols, Harold Payne, Sue Riley, Glen Roethel, Sloan Wainwright, and wife and songwriting partner, Carole Tomhave, and a host of other friends including his bandmates in New Day. He has published Let There Be Light, a songbook of 20 original songs, as well as three CD projects, Now I Begin, Let There Be Light, and Homemade and Handed Down. He has had the privilege to have studied songwriting with many of the distinguished folk listed above, as well as Janis Ian, John McCutchen, Paul Reisler, John Smith, David Roth, Livingston Taylor, and many more.
